Considéré par son créateur comme le « yacht parfait du
gentleman » et un véritable « joyau » de l’architecture na-
vale, le yacht Hallowe’en représente bien plus qu’une simple
unité de plaisance classique. Sorti du prestigieux chantier
écossais William Fife & Son en 1926 sous le numéro de
construction (Yard No.) 745, ce voilier de 24,75 mètres a
traversé le XXe siècle en redéfinissant les standards de la
performance hauturière et de l’élégance intemporelle. De
son record légendaire lors de la Fastnet Race de 1926 à sa
domination contemporaine sur le circuit méditerranéen des
régates de tradition, Hallowe’en incarne la résilience des
structures en bois de haute facture et l’évolution des grée-
ments, passant du cotre bermudien originel au yawl pour
revenir à sa configuration initiale, tout en conservant son
âme d’origine.

L’histoire de Hallowe’en prend racine dans le contexte de
l’entre-deux-guerres, une période de transition majeure
pour le yachting britannique. En octobre 1925, le lieute-
nant-colonel Joseph Francis Noel Baxendale, un gentleman

sents much more than a simple classic pleasure craft. Launched
from the prestigious Scottish shipyard William Fife & Son in
1926 as hull number (Yard No.) 745, this 24.75-meter vessel has
traversed the 20th century while redefining the standards of
offshore performance and timeless elegance. From her legend-
ary record in the 1926 Fastnet Race to her contemporary dom-
inance on the Mediterranean classic racing circuit, Hallowe’en
embodies the resilience of high-quality wooden construction
and the evolution of rigging—moving from the original Bermu-
dan cutter to a yawl and back to her initial configuration—all
while preserving her original soul.
The Genesis of a Masterpiece: William Fife III and
the 1925 Commission
The story of Hallowe’en is rooted in the interwar period, a time
of major transition for British yachting. In October 1925, Lieu-
tenant-Colonel Joseph Francis Noel Baxendale, a Hampshire
gentleman and member of the Royal Yacht Squadron, placed an
order with William Fife III in Fairlie on the banks of the Clyde.
Baxendale, who had previously sailed a 39-foot vessel inspired
